In Japan today, there are heavy ion radiotherapy facilities at five locations.
All these facilities have conditions for when heavy ion radiotherapy is indicated: this therapy is not indicated for all types of cancer.
Even if a patient has a disease that meets these conditions, heavy ion radiotherapy may be considered to be inappropriate, depending on the patient's disease and state of health.
