Features of the facility

• ･Since August 2013 when treatment was started, 4,423 patients (as of Jun 2020) have been treated. This is greater than the initial plan.
• ･This is Kyushu's only heavy ion radiotherapy facility. As the first facility in Japan led by the private sector, SAGA HIMAT opened as a collaborative project with support from industry, government, and academia. (The parent organization of the facility is the public interest incorporated foundation Saga International Heavy Particle Beam Cancer Therapy [Japanese page only].)
• ･Three devices with two different irradiation directions are currently used for treatment.
• ･Rather than inpatient hospitalization, the basic form of care provided is ambulatory care. In cases in which hospitalization is necessary due to the disease condition, this facility supports the patient in cooperation with university hospitals, hub hospitals for cancer therapy, and neighboring medical institutions.
